Come find us at the RIVER OF LIGHT TRAIL in Liverpool – an outdoor illuminated art gallery is set to take over the city’s world-famous waterfront.
For 14 nights (Tuesday 23 March to Monday 5 April) Liverpool’s residents can experience the River of Light Trail, which will showcase the work of leading local, national and international artists.
Partners across the city have come together to stage the spectacle which residents can experience with covid-safe measures in place across the 2km walking loop.
Bringing together 11 stunning audio and visual installations, the trail will open hours after the city stages a special online event reflecting on the impact a year of lockdown has had on Liverpool and its communities.

Our installation is called ‘All in the Balance’.
During the global pandemic of 2020 and 2021 many people have appreciated the natural world in new ways. Noticing more and witnessing nature’s patterns and seasonal changes on treasured daily walks has brought new awareness to the precarious global balance our natural environment is in due to unsustainable human activity the world over.
The kinetic illuminated installation of a gigantic Butterfly Mobile surrounded by giant wild grasses and flowers celebrates nature and the coming of spring. The work holds up a magnifying glass to the complexity of life-sustaining eco-systems while also being a call to action for the immediate Climate Emergency we face. ‘All in the Balance’ re-uses elements from previous artworks and is 100% recycled.
Jo Pocock, Artistic Director of Lantern Company said:
“With 2021 as an ecological tipping point, our actions and those of our governments in the coming months and years are set to determine the future of life on our planet. Declaring Climate Emergency, and greening urban space is just the first step. Like many creative organisations, this is the first live event Lantern Company have been part of in many months and we are committed to working in sustainable ways, re-thinking practices and ensuring change will happen. Our installation ‘All in the Balance’ re-uses elements from previous artworks and is 100% recycled”.
